New Shelves in my Office

Since moving in here, I have missed the shelf unit (that Joe built) that was in my old office. However, I didn't say anything to Joe as he had so many other things going on. Last week, I casually mentioned that I wished I had some shelves in here to display some family pictures and other things. That afternoon, he went to Lowes, purchased shelf kits and installed them for me! He is such a great guy! He also surprised me as I thought he would think he had to MAKE the shelves but he said, these will be great.....and a lot easier! So Here is what the office has looked like and then I will share the new shelves.
I have a lot of the African pieces in here, along with some family pictures.
These pictures are 2 of my favorites.
I got started collecting African art when I inherited some pieces from my in-laws.
This is what is on the top of my desk/hutch.

My Dad, during the war. He was in the Phillipines in this picture.
I switched out the pillows and throw for the warmer months to these green ones.
This is a large basket that I got many years ago and I hung a mask in the center.

These shelves have made me crazy. I just didn't know what to do with them. I still may move them to another room but for now, they are still here.
Above the shelf unit is some artwork and a basket  with a gourd in it.

Here is the shelf unit redone. Less things make it look less cluttered and more cohesive.
Me and our daughter...several years apart:):)
Here are the new shelves! I love them.
We did this in just a few hours.
I did a combination of décor pieces and family pictures.
I am happy with the result now.
My Mom and Dad are on the top shelf.

I wanted to show you this. Can you see that the brooch that my Mom is wearing in the picture, is in the shadow box. I am so happy to have this!
This is Joe and I in Florida many years ago!

This African doll is a favorite of mine.

My daughter and SIL's engagement picture.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend. We did as we were very busy! Entertained Friday night, a picnic on Sat. and another on Sunday! Monday we rested:)

Summer Greetings, Outside and Inside

I got some shots of the front "porch" area and the foyer. It is amazing that Memorial day weekend is almost here. You couldn't tell by our weather. I hope you all have a great weekend and maybe have some plans. So, WELCOME!!!
My large urn never gets sun, so I have to plant shade loving plants in here. I put a caladium, some peach and white impatiens and a potato vine in it. I also added some curly willow sticks to support the caladium as it gets bigger.
A peach kalanchoe is in a pot and one of my bunnies says hello.
This gorgeous begonia is such a pretty color!
I have had this pot in the house all winter. Last year I found the coleus plants coming up from seed in the yard so planted them in a pot with another plant and they have survived the winter.
 My brown bunny holds petunias.
On the walk coming up to the door my large pot has a peach geranium and I forget what is in the small pot but it also has orange flowers.
A bluish/purple petunia is in the hanging pot. That is a bluebird feeder that Joe made. We watch them eating from the dining room.

Come on in! Most of you know that these stairs are one of the things that sold me on this house. I knew I would line them with some of my blue and white jars.
For Summer I have added pretty blue rings to the candles and placed blue birds by them.

Most of the blue birds came from Michaels last year.
The rings all came from Joann Fabrics.

The candles come on with a remote.
I love lighting them at night. I can see them from here at my desk.
Thanks so much for your visit. I hope you have a great weekend but remember the reason for the holiday. We would not live in peace without the sacrifice so many have made for our freedom.

Something New for the Patio!

Good morning! We had a very rainy day yesterday and cool temps but they are SLOWLY going up and by the weekend should be nice!  Joe and I decided we needed something new for the patio. We had a portable fireplace out here for 3 years but it wasn't just what we wanted and it also sat unused for most of the time. So we found something that will work much better. It is a combination coffee table and fire pit! We are loving it! Here is what the patio looks like now! All the pots are planted, the cushions are out and the coffee table is put together!
I changed my colors out here this year; I wanted to use blue and tan with a pop of orange.
The coffee table blends nicely with the table on the deck as they both have tile on them.
I found the bird on a branch pillows at Home Depot and love them! The solid blue ones came from Walmart! The blue and white pot and the solid blue pots are planted with annuals.

I love these ferns and had it inside for awhile.
The large pots are not blue but I like how the light green blends with the blues.
These solid blue pots came from Big Lots and I bought 2 sizes. I love that they have birds on them!
This wicker looking bench is also new and holds ALOT! We originally thought it could be used as a coffee table but it is too big. It holds all our pillows and cushions and bug sprays etc. The plant in the large tan pot is a water hyacinth that we took out of the ground around the pond as it was growing too big! It will bloom in the summer.
I found this pretty blue birdhouse and the hanging plant is an orange geranium. In the large green pots are spikes, orange geranium, purple petunia and white allysum.
On the step going down to the patio is my pot that my friend Shirley from Housepitality Designs gave me. I had seen it on her blog and told her if she ever wanted to get rid of it I would buy it. It has special meaning to me as it says, "gather ye Rosebuds". My Mom's nickname was Rosebud, or Buddy. She was so kind to just pack it up and send it to me!

Thanks so much for stopping by. We have a busy week. I will be sharing a lot of what we have been doing, both inside and outside.
XO, Pinky
